The Danish band Phønix is performing at the German festivals folkBaltica and PolkaBeat!

Phønix is one of the leading Danish folk bands. Their unique sound is rooted in the Danish and Scandinavian song and music tradition, but they bring it towards new horizons with a unique and rather contemporary tone.

This week Phønix are playing children concert at folkBaltica with the German bagpibe and jewsharp player Ralf Gehler. Ralf is known from the German Folkband “Malbrook”, where he plays together with Vivian Zeller and Wolfgang Meyering, and have numerous of traditional German music recordings on his record. Accordionist in Phønix, Jesper Winther, says:

“The Music of the concert is the common Danish and German traditional Folk Music. Accordion player, a hit is f.ex. the well-known Danish Christmas song “På loftet sidder nissen med sin julegrød” played in the German version “Mein Oma färt im hühnerstall motorad”. 

Phønix also do a family concert at folkBaltica Family Concert Sunday the 1st of May at 11:00

On 26th to 29th of May, Phønix are performing at PolkaBeats Festival in Cotbus, Germany.

On 26th of May they’re playing a concert in Staatsteater Cottbus together with Philharmonisches Orchester, and Ball Folk with the Danish Dance Ensemble Embla.  On 27th of May they have a concert in Marie 23 in Cottbus, and on 28th May they play a concert in Kulturzentrum in Lübbenau. Anja, clarinet player in Phønix says:

“We look very much forward to play in the beautiful Staatteater in Cottbus and hope, we will get all the audiences dance Polka in the end of the Concert. Also we look forward to some great polka jamsessions of the festival with musicians from Germany, Netherland and US.”
